There is a difference between giving a young person something to do and giving them something new to imagine for themselves. Steve “Coach Steve” Backmon understands that difference. At the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club, his work as Manager of Healthy Lifestyles goes far beyond organizing sports, leading activities, or encouraging young people to be active. At the center of his approach is a belief that exposure can change the way a young person sees their future.

This October marks one year since the Club’s grand opening in West Baltimore. Our anniversary video celebrates what has taken shape since: a community where young people can explore their interests, build meaningful relationships and see new possibilities for their futures.

Five years of relationships, opportunity, and impact lead to a new chapter at Mace’s Lane. Every young person deserves a place where they are welcomed for who they are, valued for what they bring, and encouraged to imagine what comes next. Since opening the Boys & Girls Club at Leonards Lane in 2021, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore has worked alongside the Cambridge community to make that promise part of everyday life.
