Accelerating Impact: People Behind the Mission

This October, Boys & Girls Club leaders from across the Northeast Region gathered for three days of connection, learning and celebration of the life-changing opportunities that help young people discover their potential. For leaders from Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore, the conference offered valuable insights, fresh perspectives and inspiration to bring home in our Relentless Pursuit to strive for continuous improvement by showing up and being persistent, no matter how small the progress.

Isaiah Walker, Club Coordinator at Leonards Lane in Cambridge, gained a deeper appreciation for the scale of our organization and how each Club can tailor its approach to local needs while contributing to a shared mission. As he reflected, “even though we are large in size and share the same core mission – like sharing the same pizza – our individual slice can be custom-fitted for our local community while remaining a vital part of the bigger picture.”

Nicole Sharpe, Club Manager at O’Donnell Heights in Baltimore, valued connecting with fellow Club leaders and exploring topics like AI, teen recruitment and burnout management. She looks forward to applying these insights to strengthen programming, engage youth and better support her staff and herself.

Tiera Roy, Club Manager at Brooklyn O’Malley, was reminded that great Club experiences require intentional planning, supportive environments, engaged staff and ongoing reflection. She hopes to ensure every member feels empowered to contribute, grow and shape their Club community.

One of the most meaningful moments for Candice Brown, Club Manager at Howard Community College in Columbia, was watching youth member Riley represent BGCMB through her performances at the conference. “Watching her share her talent on a regional stage was a powerful reminder of why we do this work. It was a full-circle moment connecting the leadership development of Club professionals with the opportunities we strive to create for our youth.”

All of these Club leaders embody the work of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore every day. Through their dedication, leadership and commitment to our youth, they create safe, supportive spaces where every young person has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. They are the People Behind the Mission, and they help make our Club experiences unforgettable.
