Celebrating Youth of the Year and our Emerging Leaders

Each year, Youth of the Year is a showcase of what is possible when young people are given the chance to be seen, heard, and supported. Held at our new Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club, the day centered on one important theme: helping young people find and use their voice. Families, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate and hear from the young people at the heart of it all.

One by one, our 2026 Youth of the Year candidates—Karis, Dhontae, and Roderick—stepped up to the microphone and shared their stories. They spoke about where they’ve been, what they’ve overcome, and how the Club has helped shape who they are becoming.

Their words were honest and deeply personal. Karis reflected on the impact of the Club in a simple but powerful way, sharing that while it takes a village to raise a child, it was Boys & Girls Club that helped her find her voice. Dhontae spoke about the sense of support and encouragement he found at the Club—a place that pushed him to be his best and helped him grow into a leader who believes in his future. For Roderick, the Club has been a place of opportunity and connection, where he’s been able to play, build friendships, and take part in experiences that have left him feeling supported and grateful.

Together, their stories painted a clear picture: leadership isn’t about being perfect. It’s about having the courage to speak up, to grow, and to believe in what’s possible.

Throughout the day, candidates connected with mentors, participated in interviews with judges, and spent time building confidence in a space designed just for them. Every part of the program was intentional and created to lift up youth voice and celebrate who they are as individuals.

And behind each of these young leaders is a strong community. Staff who show up every day. Families who support and encourage. Mentors who guide and uplift. Youth of the Year is a reflection of what can happen when that kind of support comes together around a young person.

At the end of the event, we were proud to name Karis as our 2026 Youth of the Year. She will go on to represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore at the State competition in May, carrying her voice and story even further.

But the truth is, every candidate who took that stage left a lasting impact. Each one showed what it means to lead with courage, authenticity, and purpose.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore, we are proud of this moment and excited for what’s ahead. Each year, we continue to reach more young people and create more opportunities for them to grow, lead, and be heard. Because every young person deserves the chance to find their voice—and use it.
