When Baltimore City schools closed for the day, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore (BGCMB) made sure youth at our Club at O’Donnell Heights had more than just a safe place to go—they had an opportunity to learn skills that will serve them for life.
In partnership with Ernst & Young (EY), Club members ages 6–12 spent the afternoon exploring the fundamentals of financial literacy, including saving, spending, and understanding both physical and digital money. Through interactive activities and real-world examples, the workshop gave kids a hands-on look at how to make smart financial choices, an essential part of both everyday life and long-term workforce readiness.
“This was a great session, great turnout, and the kids learned a lot,” said EY volunteer Klaud Tchokogueu, reflecting on the day. “Our goal was to help them understand that in this fast-changing world, there are many ways to manage money, and it’s never too early to start learning. Some of the kids even talked about saving money to help others, which really showed how they were connecting the lessons to what matters most to them.”
At BGCMB, this kind of experience reflects our commitment to preparing youth to become productive, caring, responsible citizens. Financial literacy is one of the most powerful tools we can give young people to build confidence, encourage goal-setting, and strengthen decision-making.
This workshop also brought BGCMB’s core values to life. EY volunteers modeled a people-centered approach by meeting each child where they were and making complex ideas simple and relatable. Their energy and enthusiasm showed dynamic passion, while their persistence in guiding youth through new concepts reflected a relentless pursuit of impact.
Together, EY and BGCMB embraced diverse perspectives and experiences, helping every child see themselves as capable and empowered to build their own future.
We are deeply grateful to EY for their continued partnership and investment in the next generation. Together, we are helping close the opportunity gap—one child, one Club, one community at a time.
