Aldi Volunteer Day: Creativity, Fun, and Community in Action

The Aldi Volunteer Day with our Club at Webster Kendrick was a resounding success this past week! An afternoon packed with creativity, laughter, and hands-on engagement that left both our members and volunteers with big smiles and lasting memories.

From the moment volunteers arrived, their energy set the tone for the day: jumping right into the action, encouraging kids, joining games, and showing what true partnership looks like.

In the STEM room, our third graders and older members tapped into their inner artists with a sip-and-paint activity, Capri Suns in hand, following along with a guided painting video. Younger members filled the gym with laughter as they played Rainbow Parachute, while outside, older boys enjoyed the sunshine with a spirited game of kickball. Across the Club, kids were also immersed in STEM Fun Day activities—snack time, circuit breaker kits, slime-making, soccer drills, coding, and even some wind-down reading and coloring. Everywhere you looked, creativity and connection were buzzing.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore, we believe in a people-centered approach. We meet youth where they are, celebrate their unique interests, and empower them to discover who they aspire to be. Days like this bring our mission to life: enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Our members shared how exciting it is when new people visit the Club, especially when those people roll up their sleeves and join in. For our kids, moments like these are powerful. They show our youth that their community embraces their perspective, values their voices, and supports their growth.

“This partnership is extra special for us,” said Club Coordinator Nate McTeer. “We get most of our Club groceries from Aldi, so it was great to have them in the Club and supporting our youth in person.”

“From my perspective, it is truly encouraging to see organizations, particularly those located within the neighborhoods our youth call home, engage with our Club and contribute to the greater good,” shared Club Manager Abina Rogers. “Experiences like these allow our members to feel supported, recognized, and inspired as they grow and prepare to become the next working generation.”

This day was a beautiful example of our dynamic passion—the energy, creativity, and love we bring to our work every day. It also reflects our relentless pursuit to close the gap in out-of-school time access. With more than 252,000 children in Maryland lacking these critical opportunities, our vision is clear: to close that gap one child, one Club, one community at a time.

Aldi’s commitment to our local Club is part of a larger national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a relationship that continues to create meaningful experiences for youth across the country. Together, Aldi and BGCA are delivering programs that promote the importance of physical activity, proper nutrition, inspiring positive change, and affirming the right of young people to be themselves. Locally, Aldi volunteers are spreading that message firsthand and bringing joy, energy, and encouragement to the kids who need it most.

We are deeply grateful to Aldi for their partnership and dedication. With their support, we are shaping safe, fun spaces where kids can learn, grow, and thrive.
