At Boys & Girls Clubs, we often say Great Futures Start Here. But what does that really mean? If you're not already connected to a Club, you might not realize just how much happens within our walls — or how deeply this work shapes lives. Recently, BGCMB President & CEO Jeff Breslin shared the following reflection. We’re proud to repost it here, because it captures exactly why our work matters, and why America Needs Club Kids:
"I didn’t grow up as a “Club kid”. But over my 20-year journey in the nonprofit and corporate philanthropy space, I’ve seen firsthand the magic, power, and love that radiates from every Boys & Girls Club. For the millions who were Club kids, they know that magic intimately. A Boys & Girls Club can change the entire trajectory of a young person’s life and in many cases, it’s a lifeline during the storms of a challenging childhood.
So, when we say America Needs Club Kids – to me, it means we need more kids filled with joy, hope, and wonder. More kids surrounded by a community that doesn’t just care – but show up, listens, and puts their needs first.

This picture is one of my favorites over my seven years leading Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore. It captures the pure, innocent joy of a young girl stepping into her newly renovated Club. That joy? It’s what a Club feels like.
Of course, we do much more than just create feelings. The outcomes we deliver are second to none because of our amazing staff and proven programs. Our team members are tutors, mentors, coaches, and servant leaders. During the summer, you’ll find them manning the grill, bringing pure joy through their perfectly grilled burgers and dogs.
And none of this is possible without our deeply committed donors who stand beside us.
I’ve always believed America Needs Club Kids. Because our country is stronger when more kids just get to be kids – in a safe, supportive place every day after school. More kids playing outside. More kids learning to be on a team. More kids exploring music, arts, and science. More kids navigating the ups and downs of childhood in a place they proudly call their own – their Boys & Girls Club."
Jeff’s message is a powerful reminder of what’s at stake, and what’s possible. At BGCMB, we see it firsthand: young people finding their voice, building their path, and becoming the next generation of leaders. America Needs Club kids. And Club Kids Need Us.
