STEM Symposium Spotlights Sports & Exercise Science

The Boys & Girls Clubs Maryland Alliance convened its third STEM Symposium this March, this time spotlighting sports and exercise science in an ongoing effort to introduce kids to careers in STEM.
“The overarching theme was ‘Sports from a Different Angle,’” explained Kaitlin Keefer, BGCMB’s Education & STEAM Manager. “In addition to showcasing careers, we wanted members to understand that being active and eating healthy is important to making our bodies run correctly.”
The Symposium included Planet Fitness trainers Teddy Savage and Quintin Dailey, who led members through a workout highlighting the science behind engaging different parts of the body and ensuring proper nutrition. Also in attendance were developers who work on high-performance materials at Under Armour, an athletic trainer with Loyola University Maryland, and a football analyst with the Ravens.
The event was open to both Club members as well as kids yet to be affiliated with a Club via the virtual platform, Clubhouse @YourHouse. Just as they have for previous STEM Symposiums, Boys & Girls Club staff from across the state once again teamed up to recruit professionals to participate.
