For generations, Mace's Lane High School has represented pride, perseverance, and possibility for the Cambridge community. In June, that legacy entered its next chapter.
Community members, alumni, elected officials, partners, and supporters gathered for an exclusive preview of the new Boys & Girls Club at Mace's Lane Community Center, stepping inside the transformed space for the first time ahead of its official opening later this year. The evening a glimpse into what is possible when a community comes together to invest in its young people while honoring the generations that came before them.
Throughout the evening, guests explored our learning spaces, multipurpose space, and full-size gymnasium designed to inspire discovery, connection, and belonging. Every room reflects a simple but powerful belief: every young person deserves access to opportunities that prepare them to thrive.
Former Mace's Lane High School alumni shared memories of the building that once shaped their lives. Community members reflected on the significance of preserving a place that has long stood as a symbol of resilience and achievement. Conversations naturally shifted between stories of yesterday and excitement for tomorrow, as visitors imagined hundreds of children walking these same hallways in the years ahead.
Once complete, the Boys & Girls Club at Mace's Lane Community Center will dramatically expand opportunities for youth across Dorchester County through high-quality after-school and summer programming centered on Academic Success, Health & Well-Being, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness. The Club will ultimately serve hundreds of young people each year while creating a safe, welcoming place where they can build relationships, discover their passions, and prepare for bright futures.
Since establishing a presence in Cambridge in 2021, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore has partnered with local families to create life-changing opportunities for young people through after-school programs, summer camps, teen leadership initiatives, workforce readiness experiences, and community events. The opening of Mace's Lane represents the next evolution of that commitment—expanding both our reach and our impact while creating a permanent home built specifically for the community's future.
"This building has always meant something to Cambridge," said Jeff Breslin, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore. "We're not just opening the doors to a new Boys & Girls Club this Fall, we're honoring a legacy while creating new opportunities for generations of young people who will build their own stories here."
As construction enters its final stages, excitement continues to build across Dorchester County. Soon, the halls will once again be filled with laughter, mentorship, learning, and the everyday moments that change lives.
Because while this building honors an extraordinary past, its greatest impact is still ahead.
The future is arriving at Mace's Lane—and it belongs to the next generation.
