Lights On Afterschool 2025: Our Clubs Shine Bright!

This week, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore joined thousands of organizations across the country in celebrating Lights On Afterschool—a nationwide event recognizing the vital role of afterschool programs in helping young people reach their full potential. 

Across our Clubs, members, staff, and partners came together to celebrate with creativity, collaboration, and community spirit. From mural collaborations and robotics challenges to cultural STEM adventures and hands-on art projects, the day was filled with laughter, learning, and a shared sense of pride in the power of afterschool programs. Members explored global traditions, built teamwork skills, and reflected on what it means to “let your light shine.” 

We also proudly welcomed local educators, community members, and corporate partners for an open house at the new Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club, offering a first-hand look at how afterschool programs provide safe, supportive, and inspiring spaces for Baltimore’s youth to learn and grow. 

“Lights On Afterschool is a celebration of what happens every day in our Clubs—kids discovering their strengths, trying new things, and building relationships that help them thrive,” said Nakita Clark, Director of Club Operations. “Our staff work hard to create environments where young people feel seen, supported, and excited to learn, and this event is a wonderful reflection of that work.” 

“It was a great day for our kids to focus on teamwork and connection,” said Enaka Beteck, Club Manager with our Club at Truitt Community Center. “Activities like these give our members the chance to build trust, collaborate, and really strengthen their sense of community within the Club.” 

“It was so much fun seeing our members explore, create, and learn together,” said Candice Brown, Club Manager with our Club at Howard Community College. “Huge shoutout to our amazing staff for bringing the magic to life and showcasing the power of afterschool programs that keep kids inspired, safe, and engaged every day!” 

Across every Club, Lights On Afterschool reminded us of what makes afterschool programs so impactful—the opportunities they create, the communities they strengthen, and the futures they help build. 

With over 252,000 children in Maryland lacking access to out-of-school time programs, our vision is to close that gap—one child, one Club, one community at a time.
