One Flock, One Unforgettable Summer Fest

To celebrate the end of summer camp, we invited more than 600 campers from our nine Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore summer camps across Baltimore City, Howard County, Cambridge and Salisbury to come together for BGCMB's first Summer Fest at the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club! Throughout the day, Club members explored experiences connected to the four pillars that guide BGCMB programming: Character & Wellness, Academic Success, Life & Workforce Readiness and Healthy Lifestyles. They practiced teamwork through sports, expressed themselves through art and music, built new relationships, explored wellness activities and discovered new interests. Summer Fest demonstrated what becomes possible when young people have access to safe spaces, caring adults and a community deeply invested in their futures. While the Ravens Club was the backdrop for the day, it really served as a hub of opportunity capable of welcoming hundreds of young people and giving them access to experiences designed to support their physical, social and emotional well-being.

Welcomed Like Heroes

The day began with an unforgettable Hero’s Welcome. Volunteers cheered, clapped and exchanged high-fives with Club members as they arrived. The joy on our young people’s faces said it all. From the very beginning, every Club member knew this day was for them. They were seen, celebrated and surrounded by people who believed in their potential. After an opening rally, Club roll call and group photo, members set out to explore eight activity zones.

Something for Every Club Kid

Each zone gave young people a different way to move, create, connect and try something new. In the Champions Zone, Planet Fitness volunteers led kickball and flag football while encouraging teamwork, movement and friendly competition. Full Sail Media brought creativity to life in the Create Zone. Its volunteers worked alongside Club members as they made chalk art and collaborative murals. RSM brought energy and joy to the Splash Zone through sponge relay races, water balloon tosses and foam-filled fun. Wellpoint gave members in the Chill Zone time to recharge with yoga and coloring. In the Jam Zone, our volunteers from Comcast led our members in dance circles and helped kids step into the circle with confidence and creativity! Club members enjoyed inflatables and games in the Carnival Zone led by Bozzuto volunteers, cooled down with Sysco at the Kona Ice snow cone truck! We all enjoyed lunch with friends in the Fuel Zone. Wendy’s and Vulcan helped provide meals for hundreds of young people throughout the day. Together, the eight zones supported the whole child through physical activity, creativity, teamwork, wellness and connection.

A Community That Showed Up

Summer Fest was powered by volunteers and partners who brought enthusiasm, encouragement and fun for our kids! They played alongside Club members, cheered them on, created art, danced, served meals and treats, and helped groups move safely between activities. When periods of rain required the team to adjust the day’s plans, staff, volunteers and partners responded with flexibility and positivity. Activities moved when needed, but the fun continued. Every decision remained focused on keeping Club members safe, engaged and having a great time.

The Impact of Summer Fest

The impact of Summer Fest can be seen in both the big picture and the small moments.

It was more than 600 young people from different communities coming together as one BGCMB family. It was also a child trying yoga for the first time, proudly adding their work to a mural, making a new friend during flag football or smiling as volunteers welcomed them like a hero. These moments help young people build confidence, discover new interests and feel connected to a larger community. They remind every Club member that they matter and that people are invested in their future.

To every volunteer, partner and staff member who made Summer Fest possible: thank you. You gave hundreds of young people a day filled with joy, belonging and new possibilities—and memories they will carry long after summer ends.
