Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore teens from our Howard Community College (HCC) site recently experienced an unforgettable lesson in leadership and perseverance during Senator Cory McCray’s book signing for The Apprenticeship That Saved My Life. 

When we met Jabari Smith while filming the Baltimore Ravens Boys & Girls Club construction video update this past July, his story immediately stood out. A former Club kid who attended camps in Annapolis, Jabari is now a media designer at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company—the very company helping to bring the new Club to life.

On Saturday, September 20, members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore had the opportunity to attend the Truth and Service Classic, where Howard University faced off against Hampton University. For many of our teens, it was their very first time experiencing an Historically Black College and University (HBCU) college football game—and the day was nothing short of unforgettable. 

Mayor Randy Taylor of Salisbury spent the morning with members in our Passport to Manhood program, sitting down to talk about careers, dreams, and what it really means to lead a city. From the start, he made it clear he wasn’t there to give a speech, he was there to connect. 

Boys & Girls Club at Westport members recently had a day they’ll never forget at Loyola University, where Olympic legend Michael Phelps and Baltimore Ravens players joined them for a splash-filled and very important day in the water (the Today Show even came to cover it!) 

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. This summer, three of our Club teens brought that mission to life in a big way as they traveled to Chicago for the 2025 National Keystone Conference, an unforgettable experience centered around leadership, advocacy, and personal growth.

From her early days studying early childhood development, English, and communications, she’s had one goal in mind—helping young people thrive. That clarity led her to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore, where she has grown into a leader and advocate for youth voice, wellness, and opportunity. 

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Baltimore, we're building something bold: a teen program that inspires, supports, and grows with our youth. Teen retention is one of the biggest challenges we face, but when teens do stay, they help shape something powerful. This year, we’re celebrating four remarkable young men, who not only stayed committed to the Club, but helped shape the future of what our teen program can be.
